Craven young carers had fun with ‘veggie sculptures’ at youth club last night. As it is Carers’ Week we talked about what it’s like to be a young carer and some thoughts shared included – ‘It’s not always just the physical help, but it’s the emotional stress that can be the hardest’……’Being a young carer gives us more skills – like empathy, and being able to cope- and having a good sense of humour helps’. Young carers really are Awesome.
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to the staff and students of St Aidan’s school who raised £500 for Young Carers through a non uniform day.
We support around 30 young carers at St Aidans through one to one emotional support and respite opportunities. This fundraising wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiasm of our young carers at the school who campaigned to make it happen. Thank you very much.
The important question is….What would you like the money to be spent on?! Let us know your ideas 🙂
Our young carer, Emily, 16, is awesome. She spoke live on Radio York about being a young carer and the support our service has provided her with. Radio York breakfast presenter Kay Crewdson is running the famous Knaresborough Bed Race with Raworths Solicitors to raise money for our young carers. Thank you Emily for speaking so well and raising awareness of young carers. You’re Awesome!
Thank you to Matrix Bowling at Skipton for supporting young carers with discounted rates. We had a great time.
A very big THANK YOU to David and Pam Sneath (Maisie’s grandparents) who kindly gave £300 to Craven Young Carers. The Sneaths celebrated their golden wedding and very generously asked for money to be donated to The Carers’ Resource Young Carers rather than have gifts. We’ll put the money to good use – a day at the trampoline park this summer!
We just want to say a massive thank you to Harry and Stephen two of our Young adult carers. They put our names forward at their local school and asked if St Aidans school Harrogate would do a non-uniform day for us on Friday 31st March. St Aidans very kindly agreed and lots of money was raised! (still totally this up!!) Thank you!!
What truly impressed us was that Harry ans Stephen took the time out of their busy lives to think of others. They value the support we offer them and they wanted to give back. This means so much to us and the money raised will really make a huge difference!!
Thank you boys and Thank you St Aidans !!!
Craven Young Carers enjoyed a day in London. As well as a spin on the London Eye, they spent time in the Imperial War Museum and had a tour of the Houses of Parliament. Many thanks to the people who donated funds to enable this trip – Friends are Us in Cross Hills, The Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary and Libby.
To celebrate Young Carers Awareness Day, Craven young carers had a bake sale at Settle College. We raised £70.89
We have been super busy here over the past couple of weeks delivering hundreds of presents and hampers to all our young carers and their families. The gifts were kindly donated by the Department of Work and Pensions & Ashville Pre-prep school and were super awesome and thoughtful. In total there were around 100 hampers and 300 gifts! Our young carers couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw all the treats which were wrapped up just for them. We have been generously supported by DWP for 10 years and Ashville Pre Prep for 5 Years, thank you to both of you..YOU.ARE.AWESOME!
A BIG thank you to Skipton Self Drive for providing discounted van and minibus hire in support of Craven Young Carers.
Harry is one of our very dedicated Young Carers who is giving up his precious time to support Young Carers aged 7-11 years at the BUDZ youth club. His help has been vital in maintaining the BUDZ youth club. All the children love his positive attitude and amazing parachute games. Thank you Harry, you are a star!!
We had a great summer of trips with the Young carers of Harrogate and Craven. Harrogate alone have had 13 trips with 120 places being offered and 98 individual young carers attending at least one trip!
Eight Craven Young Carers had an amazing weekend sailing with the Ocean Youth Trust North. A big thank you to the crew for helping to make the trip such a memorable experience. Ilkley Community Transport and Skipton Self Drive also supported our young carers getting to North Shields to board the Ocean Venture. A special thank you to Chris Walters.
We’ve said once, we’ll say it again….our volunteers are AWESOME!
We’ve had to sadly say good bye to Imogen, our volunteer at our primary school youth club, BUDz. Imogen has been such a great help over the past year and we will all miss her smiley, happy face. Imogen is moving down south to work in an out door residential centre with children. We celebrated the last BUDz sesssion with pizza & sports day! Good luck Imogen 🙂
Our Young Carers Fair was awesome! We managed to secure a small stall at Grove road school in Harrogate on Friday 8th July 2016. Our young carers used their talented skills to create handmade chocolates, cakes, Swiss roll and even some jewelry boxes to raise money for Young carers. They managed to raise an amazing £22!
The Second Yorkshire Three peak training walk was awesome and lightning quick! We managed to walk 10km in 1 hour 45 minutes! The weather was perfect and spirits were very high.
Thanks to the lovely support staff at Harrogate College, enough money was raised to give young adult carers who attend an end of year celebration. Staff held a ‘clothes swap sale’ to raise money and awareness of carers across the college during this stressful exam period. The Go-Karting activity was chosen by our young adult carers, and proved to be the perfect way to celebrate the end of the school year. It was a fast paced, fun and rewarding experience which everyone appreciated and enjoyed!
Thank you Harrogate College. `
A big thank you to K rescue for educating Craven young carers about exotic pets.
This week the Carers Trust and The Children’s Society are celebrating a year of the Young Carers in Schools Programme .
A big thank you to Hybrid3 Studio staff who worked with Craven and Harrogate young carers to create, perform and record a radio play. The creative and musical energy was awesome!
Another huge thank you to the amazing staff and customers of Yorkshire Building Society in Knaresborugh who collected and donated over 40 Easter eggs and chocolate for the Young carers of Harrogate. Our Budz youth club were very happy to receive one each and hopefully they didn’t eat them all at once!
A big thank you to the staff at Harrogate College, who have been fundraising to support young adult carers. Our project supports many 16-25 years at the college through emotional and peer support, regular outings and a dedicated lunch group. Staff at the college wanted to raise awareness around young adult carers and decided to raise money – and awareness- though a ‘clothes swap’ fundraiser. Staff invited students and staff to donate clothes to sell at the event, and also encouraged them to buy some re-cycled bargains. The money will be spent on an end of year celebration for young adult carers at the college. Thank you!
